A Little History

January 30, 2006

I was born in July of 1973 in South Africa and immigrated to the US in 1980.  No, we were not missionaries, just descendants of settlers.  I became a citizen in 1986, on Valentine's Day after my mom and dad had to take that agonizing test ( I remember them studying for about a year-or maybe that's just my kid memory playing tricks on me).  I remember the courtroom, pledging to be a citizen and sitting in the judges chair for a photo opp.  Valentine's Day turned out to be a fitting day for my new “identity” as my love affair with America began and still continues.
I'm still proud to be an American in a climate where America's popularity at home and abroad is negative.  I'm proud and humbled by all of our men and women serving to keep us safe and free.  I am proud that we are a country founded on Christian beliefs and principles which will never change even though a minority wishes to rewrite history for its own purposes.  I'm proud of our president who took a stand against terrorism and continues to do so even in the midst of great debate.
Okay, I'll jump off my platform now and give you a bit more history…
I met the love of my life at Bible College and we were married in 1998, the next six years we had three beautiful children, Hannah, Ethan and Jonah.
My hubby is a builder, I stay at home and homeschool Hannah.  I lead the Children's Choir at my Church, which I just love and sing on a worship team every so often.
The most important thing to know about me is that I am a child of God.  God called me to himself when I was eleven and continues to refine me and teach me to grow to become more like Jesus Christ, my Savior.  I realize that I am nothing without Him and yet His grace and mercy pours down on my heart so that I am consumed by his love.  There is nothing I can do to deserve or earn this love and that is why it is so amazing.  Amazing that the God of the universe would take the form of a man, live a perfect life and die a hideous death, all to pay the price for my sin and my punishment.  There is a great song out there called, “How Deep the Father's Love for Us”, which I think of now.  If I was a little more savvy I would make a link to it for you, but that will have to wait.  I'll sing it for you and if you know the tune, you can sing along:

How deep the Father's love for us
     how vast beyond all measure,
     that He should give His only Son
     to make a wretch his treasure,
          How great the pain of searing loss,
            the Father turns His face away,
          As wounds which mar the Chosen One,
          bring many sons to glory.
Behold the man upon a cross,
my sin upon His shoulders,
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice,
call out among the scoffers,
It was my sin that held Him there,
until it was accomplished,
His dying death has brought me life;
I know that it is finished.
I will not boast in anything;
no gifts, no power, no wisdom,
But I will boast in Jesus Christ;
His death and resurrection,
Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer,
But this I know with all my heart;
His wounds have paid my ransom.
